Klaus Botzet has been Ambassador to The Gambia since August 2023.

He is the first German Ambassador taking residence in this English-speaking nation in West Africa.

Prior to this assignment Mr. Botzet held the position of Deputy Chief of Mission at the German Embassy in Bogota, Colombia from 2018-2023. Before, he served as the Head of the Political, Security and Development Section of the Delegation of the European Union to the United States of America.

Other previous career positions include i. a. Head of Division of the U.S. and Canada office at the Foreign Office in Berlin, the German Embassy in Washington D.C., Head of Division in the Legal Department of the Foreign Office in Berlin, the German Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva and the Federal Chancellor’s Office.

A native of Krefeld / Düsseldorf in Germany, Mr. Botzet earned degrees in law (1. and 2. State Exams) in Bavaria, following law studies in Munich, Geneva, Strasbourg and Bonn. Mr. Botzet is married to US diplomat Ms. Jessica Rosen.
